I like to introduce "Rose" to you. She is very special to me.

It took 3 months to sculpt her out of clay that dries by air. It was such a challenge! She is life-size and when I hold her in my arms it feels just like a real baby.

Welcome at my website!
My name is Ans Werker and I was born 24-1-1948 in Amsterdam.
Since 1980 I have lived in Hoorn, the Netherlands.

From early age on there was the interest in drawing, painting and being creative. I took many courses like model painting and graphic techniques

About 9 years ago I bought my first computer and its many graphic possibilities started to replace the drawing and painting. Soon I began to build websites and started to show my creative hobbies on the internet.

In January 2002 I came in contact with doll making.

At first I sculpted real-size babies and I wrote a book about sculpting these babies.
My sculpted babies became smaller and smaller and I soon I also started to sculpt fantasy and character dolls out of polymerclay.

All my dolls are one of a kind, that means I do not use any molds.

Every doll is a challenge and I love to share this dollmaking with people all over the world.
Therefore I put some tutorials at my website so you can see how I have made several faces and dolls. And I have also a page:" work in progress".

Please visit my baby and fantasy gallery to see my dolls and I hope you will enjoy your visit.

The last couple of years I started to draw and paint again.

And I am reborning baby-dolls.

At the bottom of this page you can read all about my book and ordering the book or the Ebook = PDF file.

After sculpting "Rose" I started to experiment with clays you can bake in your oven. These polymerclays offer more possibilities.

I started to sculpt smaller and smaller baby-dolls, like these two: only 5.6 inch.

And this is my latest fullsculpt baby
This time I sculpted a doll of 13cm/4.4" curled up.

I love to sculpt faces, it so lovely to give the doll an expressive face and to try to let it "live".

That is also the reason that I started to sculpt character dolls. It is a lovely journey to sculpt these dolls and their faces and to try to sculpt as much detail as possible. Recently I started to sculpt elder faces.

This is my latest face, an elderly woman. On the left still unbaked, on the right with hair and I baked her. But I have still have to paint her eyes. At my page: dolls in progress you can see bigger and detailed photos of the working process.

It is so lovely to create those folds and wrinkles. In the faces of babies or elderly people.

That's why I also like to sculpt crying babies..

These are still unbaked but you can see the details better when the clay is raw.

In my baby gallery you will lots of babies. Please take a look at them.

These are a couple of faces that I sculpted. On the left a mermaid and the others are characterdolls. You will find bigger and detailed photos of them at my page: fantasy gallery

I also work on commission to draw portraits of people and pets.

This is my latest commission:
Father and his two sons
in pastel.

At my page "Portraits" you can see a lot of portraits I already have made.

And these lovely children are also commissions.

I drew them for their grandmothers.

I show you in a tutorial step by step how I have made one of the faces I sculpted. It is the face of my first angel.
I even sculpted the eyes and I also show you how I did that.

From the first steps to the finished head.

Each head is a real adventure.

In my tutorial I also show you how I made the armature and cloth body.

So please take a look.
